Like everyone else with an unusual name, I have always been interested in the origins of my name. In fact I had discovered a definition of it that made perfect sense many years ago and tried to explain it in that context if and when an opportunity arose to talk about it.
Accordingly, being born to Turkish parents and in Turkey. I was pretty certain that I had a good idea of the origins of the name and its’ intended meaning. I could even understand what might have been going through the minds of my parents when they decided to pick this name for their first born, son.
Only recently, when I was looking up a keyword JAIL (in terms of BSD – computing term), I came across a middle eastern organisation named the TAMER Group. I had heard individuals named Tamer but never a company. This made me curious, so I clicked the link to explore and find out what it was all about. Hmm.. The business isn’t exactly in my line of interests but, I thought it was certainly worth a read, given that the company carries my name.
I was surprised to see that this was a Saudi Arabian corporation. Interesting, I thought. In fact I had heard of an academic in the middle east, a Saudi analyst who was also known by first name of Tamer. Seeing the TAMER GROUP lead me to do a quick search with keywords “saudi namee Tamer meaning” (note the typo error here, with the extra ‘e’ in the name…)
To my surprise, this lead to several results and the one I clicked for a definition revealed interesting results.

I couldn’t help but duplicate the QR code, which is essentially a link back to the web site that gives details about the name including its’ meaning. I must say the pronunciation part of the web site isn’t quite right and I am not sure about the fluff about star signs but hey ho… It’s something.
